The inaugural Aylesbury Grammar School Debating Competition (AGSDC) will be held on Saturday 17th April 2010.
In preparation for the new schools’ debating season, all of the Society’s 2008/09 activity (competitions, motions and results) is now online.
Congratulations to Phillips House, who won the very first House Debating competition today, and to Paterson House, who won the senior final on a 2-1 split. For the full breakdown of results, and audio streams of the finals, click here.

Tom Moran, Jack Gamble, Peter Doughton and Guy Miscampbell have achieved record successes for the Society over the past fortnight. Tom and Jack came 10th, and Pete and Guy 41st, of 88 teams at Oxford Finals Day on 14th March. The following weekend, Tom and Jack reached the Grand Final of the Durham Schools competition, and Pete and Guy narrowly missed out on the break in 11th place (of 112 teams). Jack and Guy were both ranked in the top ten speakers.

Congratulations to everybody who represented the Society at the 2009 Bristol Debating Union competition. The AGS Swingers, comprising Guy Miscampbell and Tom Moran, came 3rd in the entire competition, and were narrowly followed by Charlie Morris and Oscar Kennedy in 9th, Victor Greenstreet and Stefano Imbriano in 10th, Will Ranford and Arthur Hughes in 13th, Matt Lever and George Deacon in 18th, Rupert Pickering and Aaron Lewin in 24th, James Lake and Dan Silvertown in 27th, and Tom Larkin and Adam Woodbridge in 28th. Special mention goes to Charlie Morris for reaching 11th on the speaker tab!

Two of the three AGS teams entering this year’s Cambridge Schools competition have qualified for the second round. AGS A (comprising Matt Lever and George Deacon) and AGS B (comprising James Lake and Dan Silvertown) will soon go on to speak in the Regional Finals. Commiserations to AGS C, who were still widely praised for their excellent speeches in both of the debates.
